Injured in a Car Accident? We do personal injury cases including auto accident, slip and fall, and dog bite cases. We settled a case for $100,000 recently. But here is a little example of what you should NOT do. The client was injured at the scene, but didn't do a police report because the person who hit her promised to pay her. He promised he would take care of "everything."
Instead of taking care of it, he lied about the accident and claimed he was in a different car, so the insurance wouldn't pay because there was no damage to his car, so nothing to prove the case was legitimate on their side. But, we managed to secure the settlement in the end by producing proof of what happened. The process took about a year more than it should have, because his insurance company honestly believed his car had no damage, so it couldn't have caused our client's injuries.
The lesson is, ALWAYS make a police report because if you don't, they will use that against you. Without the police report you may not even be able to prove that you were at the scene. So always wait for the police and get that report.
